October 25 and Saturday October 28. Airfield safety is an important and
complicated issue; therefore, a meeting dedicated solely to this topic was
deemed necessary as part of the community-based planning process.

airfield safety in general and the nature and composition of runway incursions
in particular. At these public meetings, the Federal Aviation Administration and

First Public Outreach Meetings for LAX Master Plan Specific Plan Amendment
Study Set for March 15 and 18
LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/13/2006 -- Two outreach meetings will
be held Wednesday, March 15 and Saturday, March 18, 2006, for the public to
participate in the LAX Master Plan Specific Plan Amendment Study. The meetings
begin a community-based planning process for the modernization of Los Angeles
International Airport.
"We look forward to hearing from our neighbors about their ideas for
modernizing LAX, and limiting noise and traffic problems in their communities,"
said Lydia H. Kennard, executive director of Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA),
which owns and operates LAX and three other airports in the Southern California
region. "These meetings are a critical first step in a new, more responsive
public process. We invite the public to voice its views and sentiments on the
best way to improve LAX and help make it a good neighbor."
Two meetings are scheduled for the public's convenience, but will cover the
same topics, so attendance is not necessary at both meetings. The meetings will
describe the accelerated residential soundproofing, aircraft gate reductions,
traffic studies, and other benefits created by the new LAX Master Plan
Stipulated Settlement, and summarize the scope and schedule for the LAX Specific
Plan Amendment Study.
The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 15, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The second meeting will be held on Saturday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
Both meetings will be conducted at the Flight Path Learning Center, 6661 West
Imperial Highway, Los Angeles. Free parking is available on site.
These meetings are the first steps toward implementing the recent settlement
of lawsuits filed against the LAX Master Plan. The LAX Specific Plan Amendment
Study was one of the conditions of the settlement, that called for the creation
of a prompt, community-based planning process to revisit and potentially replace
controversial "yellow light" projects, such as the Manchester Square Ground
Transportation Center, with alternative projects that increase airport
efficiency and mitigate traffic, noise and pollution.
The study will consist of a series of public planning meetings over the next
six months followed by a formal environmental review process.
For more information about the outreach meetings, please contact Los Angeles
World Airport at 1-800-919-3766. The settlement agreement is available for
viewing on the LAX Master Plan website: Final Stipulated
Settlement.
